Critique: (#4)
In this critique I will be reviewing a photograph of a flower, a gerbera daisy. What's interesting about this photo is the form. The space in the center of the flower is interesting because of all of the overlapping layers of the lighter pink petals around the center. These smaller petals also contrast with the darker and larger pink petals going around the outside of the flower. The photo also consists with rule of thirds because it isn't straight on. The flower also has great texture, as the photo is so up close that the viewer can see the overlapping petals, seeing how they fall over and into each other. The color is with a sepia filter which in turn gives the flower a softer traditional look. The feeling this photo gives off is something more along the lines of tradition. I feel as though it should be at my grandparents house complimenting my grandmothers traditional pink rug that pulls the room together in a warm family friendly feel. I like the toned down colors as it gives a soft feel rather than a hard deliberate feel with bright vivid color tones. I really like this photo because of how much detail you can see in the petals and how soft the colors look without losing the values and tones that the original photograph had. I also like that even in the background ,where the green leaves, that there is depth and spacing between the leaves. I also really like that the natural light on it creates the highlights and shadows on the flower and the surrounding background, I think these shadows and highlights really pull the picture together.
